# How to choose a trading pair

You can select a trading pair in the **Chart** or **DOM** widgets by clicking on **Choose pair**.

Before doing so, however, you must configure your [connection to the exchange](/features/how-to-start/connect-to-exchanges.md)

### How does trading pair selection work? <a href="#h_8fb07b0282" id="h_8fb07b0282"></a>

Let’s say you select an instrument, such as spot trading. A connection window will appear. If you have a connection, then, in order for it to be selected automatically and so that the window for selecting a connection doesn’t appear every time, put a checkmark next to “Automatically choose connection next time if there’s only one connection.”

If you have several connections, then when you select the spot instrument, you will see a list of the connections that support spot instruments. If you select the futures instrument, you will only see the connections that support futures.

**Note:** For your convenience, the system is configured such that the instrument is automatically updated in the trading toolbar for the widget you selected.

## Querying This Documentation
If you need additional information that is not directly available in this page, you can query the documentation dynamically by asking a question.

Perform an HTTP GET request on the current page URL with the `ask` query parameter, and the optional `goal` query parameter:

```
GET https://wiki-en-macos.tiger.trade/other/faq/trading/how-to-choose-a-trading-pair.md?ask=<question>&goal=<endgoal>
```

`ask` is the immediate question: it should be specific, self-contained, and written in natural language.
`goal` is optional and describes the broader end goal you are ultimately trying to accomplish on behalf of the user. GitBook uses it to tailor the answer towards what is most useful for that goal.

The response will contain a direct answer to the question and relevant excerpts and sources from the documentation.

Use this mechanism when the answer is not explicitly present in the current page, you need clarification or additional context, or you want to retrieve related documentation sections.
